What Is the Difference Between DSL and High Speed Internet?

Just speaking generally... DSL works through your phone land line. Usually, when people say "High Speed Internet" they are actually referring to cable and/or Fiber (FIOS). For speed: #1 FIOS #2 Cable #3 DSL #4 Dial Up #5 Neighbor's hookup For least costly, reverse the list .

1. High speed, but longer ping times?

The easiest way to imagine this is to think of a river - the water as data and a floating rubber duck as your ping (albeit only in one direction).A river has two relevant properties - size (width & depth) and speed (flow rate). A large river may move a lot of water, but it does not necessarily mean the flow rate is high (so your duck might take a long time to get from one point to another). 2. How to get affordable, high speed internet in a rural area?

well if you can get mobile/cell phone reception out there then you can get a wireless connection for your home PC, I know this because that is what my mum has at her house and it has got fairly good speed.... What they do is come out to your house and put up a mast so you can receive the Internet. So take a look around on the net maybe and see if there's any Internet company's that do wireless Internet that's not for laptop :).

Below is your fix but read story first. Yes I have had the same problem with geek tards I mean geek squad. You see im a computer builder, I repair and fix computers. If its a computer I can do it. anyway I took one too them just to see how good they were and I allready new what it was but I just was currious. anyway the fan on the processor was shot. when this happens the computer starts and then emediatly shuts down to protect its self. it was a friend at works computer she wanted me to fix. anyway i took it too them and they said it was a bad processor and they wanted to order a new one. I laughed at the price walked out and went to my favorite computer parts store. bought a processor fan for 10 bucks and it worked as I new it would. On to your problem. Check your cord thouroughly to see if theres any breaks in it. but im guessing it weak at laptop plug area. to fix this you will need a small one rap of tin foil around that plug that goes inside the laptop. now make sure its just one rap and only on the chrome part. put it in carefully and the plug should feel more secure with a better connection. also when this is done ands its in and secure feeling carfully hold it in and rap electric black tape only about 2 inches back starting from the plug in. this should fix that problem. As for your freezing I would need more info like is it when your on web pages or running programs. I hiley recomend to things first. go to start menu, accesories then sytem tools. find disk clean up and click it. dont worry this wont erase anything of importance. check everything and hit ok. when that is done go to accesories again and look for defrag. click it and say defrag now. when its done restart computer. now I have alittle secret for speeding up your puter on internet but it only works for highspeed. dsl, cable, anyway if you dont have high speed then ignore this. if it does go to this link and download whats called web accelerator. its from google. dont get google tool bar or any that crap they have checked just the web accelerator. now when its done double click or right click till you see prefernces the only thing to do here is check the spot that says connection speed to whatever it is your using. bam babe it will scream through web pages now. good luck!
