Single stage paint was the only kind of paint on cars for decades. Base coat/clear coat did not become popular until the 1980's. Some car makers still use single stage paints on some of their cheaper models. It's possible that your cavalier already has single stage on it. As long as it is a solid color, no metallic, that you are painting your car you should be fine. I would not recommend spraying a metallic single stage on your car. It takes a lot of skill to make the metallic look right and you can never buff it because buffing it will make the metallic look blotchy. James, spraying clear coat on a single stage defeats the purpose of using a single stage paint.
1. how do i prevent the clear coat from peeling on my 2006 toyota matrix?
You know its going to come off. But if your savings account is not all filled up and you do not have money to burn then you might listen to some of my poor mans craziness. My 2003 Chevrolet Malibu had a spoiler on the back and of course when it was around 7 years old the clear coat started coming off at first it was just some small spots that no one would see, but then it really started to fall off so I took some soft scrub which is just a cleaner with a little grit in it and cleaned the spoiler real good then I sprayed everything off with a hose. I then let it dry for a couple days a couple hours will work. Then I just grabbed a spray can of polyurethane, the final clear coat I use for all of my wood finishing projects. I knew it was clear and I knew it would stick but I had no idea how long it would hold. I had the Malibu for 2 years after I sprayed the polyurethane on and it looked brand new. You could be right next to the spoiler and you could not tell. So If you have about $5 go to Lowe's or any hardware store and buy a spray can of polyurethane and fix your paint. It will also stop the clear coat from peeling of. Good luck.
2. car shine problem, clear coat not brimming?
it helps to wet sand it with 1200 grit paper then buff it out, then it should look like a piece of glass when your done with it,if there's enough clear on it will shine really good, good luck on it
3. I'm getting my car painted and I had a pretty color picked out that was pearl but?
Vehicles of today primarily utilize a two stage paint process know as base coat, clear coat. There are a number of three stage colors that have become popular. The best example is the pearl white that General Motors uses on the Cadillac. When viewed from different angles the paint color appears to change. This is due to the mid coat, which is applied after the base coat and before the clear coat. The mid coat contains pearlescent powders that cover a broad color spectrum. If you look closely, you can see the small flakes of purple, reds, blues and other colors that give the pearl look to the finish. This type of refinishing is also known as" Tri Coat" with some paint manufactures. It can be done with a 2-stage, but the color & shift are not going to be as vibrant.
4. What's the best way you've found to clear up foggy head lights on your car?
We wet-sand the lenses, apply clear coat, and bake with a UV lamp. Others have advocated for toothpaste and high -DDT bug repellant
5. is it possible to spot blend automotive base paint and clear coat over existing base paint and clear coat?
Yes and no. The area must be prepped and then the paint and clear coat can be applied
6. How difficult will it be to sand off clear coat if spray it on the hood to see what it looks like and then decide to sand it off?
You might spray the clear coat someplace where it is not so visible, like the inside of a door frame. Then you wo not even have to sand it off
