Hmm.. i dunno about a metal plate unless its different on newer ones. (but i think they are all the same) open your trunk and the trunk liner carpet you need to pull that pack in on the side that the tail light you are going to replace is on. after you pulled that back there should be one or two plastic knobs and you just unscrew those and take em off. Then you should be able to take the whole tail light assembly off the car. and there will be to plastic light housings with the wires going into them. All you have to do is give them like a quarter or a half turn and then they pull out and you can change the light bulb. Hope that helps.

Your best approach would be to get a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car. You can get them at pep Boys or Autozone,where you can also get the bulb (much cheaper than a dealer!). You will find that these manuals describe in detail, with pictures how to do such jobs.

It may very well be the multi-function switch. Have someone watch the rear light for you, and move the turn sig switch around, and see if the lights come on, even for a short time, if so. replace the turn sig switch. if it ai not blowing fuses, 9 times outta 10 it's due to moisture contamination. leaky lens seal or cracked lens. WD-40 sprayed in the bulb socket will help. but untill the moisture leak is dealt with, it's a band-aide fix. an electrical power supply issue such as wires touching or grounding out behind the sockets usually results in taking out fuses. which would effect all lights, all corners (app), on a given fused circuit. so....
