------What would be an interesting topic to write about Chinese culture?
You can talk about the loss of the Chinese cultural identity, especially after a couple hundred years of foreign occupation since year 1644. While Japan and Korea still wear their traditional clothing (the Kimono and Hanbok respectively) for special occasions among other things, many Chinese people do not realize their traditional dress is the Hanfu, and instead mistakenly recognizing the "chi pao" as Chinese. Although its modern variant was designed by the Chinese (originating in Shanghai where they were usually worn by hookers to attract customers), its traditional variant is Manchurian in origin, along with the waist-length pig-tails and half shaven heads that was widespread during the Manchurian occupation of China. Interesting things to note: 1. A group of people in China who went on strike regarding certain issues with Japan once burned a woman's hanfu because they thought it was a kimono. 2. Since year 1644 while China's culture was slowly getting decimated by the foreign Manchurians, till today there has not yet been a Chinese dynasty that took back control of their own country. The fall of the Manchurian rule was immediately followed up by the communists. 3. As of today people are starting to raise awareness of Hanfu and bringing back the original Chinese culture such as Confucian rites (including marriage) and philosophy, festivals, celebrations, etc, all of which are celebrated with the appropriate Hanfu. Plenty of Hanfu awareness videos can be found on youtube.
------What did Ancient China wear? (details!)?
Hanfu was the name of ancient chinese clothing but it differed greatly throughout her history. Like other settled civilizations China faced the challenge of nomads that they considered barbarians who were often all skilled at archery, riding etc. Like many advanced civilizations she considered herself superior and in the area of dress Chinsese people tamed their hair so it was not messy like a barbarian and wore the left side of the robe on top of the right. These kind of things were like rituals which demarcated them from us.
