Walmart sell the electronic litter box for about $100. It scoops the litter about 10 minutes after the cat uses it. You have to use a good scoopable litter in it.

Feline pine works really well. It's made from compressed pine dust that look like rabbit pellets. I would consider using less at a time because after the cat urinates, the pellets fill up with the moisture and then eventually dry out into dust. This litter just smells like wood, and does a great job at absorbing all ammonia odors. However, it does not do a good job masking poo odors. Cats are more particular about ammonia smells so if they smell poo they do not really care so much. They will still track some of the pellets out of the litter box, but I find it's better than grit from litter especially since it does not track onto my furniture. Also, you wo not have to fish out clumps of dried pee, once most of the pellets are gone, you just change the litter. You only have to worry about getting out the poo

Some cat litter is unsuitable for small pets because it's made of (or with) pine/cedar pulp/shavings or because it clumps. Pine and cedar bedding IS toxic for small pets to breathe in (the aromatic oils used to make it smell nice are the problem). Clumping litter is just unsafe for obvious reasons. The Breeder's Celect litter appears to be 99% recycled paper, which is totally safe to use. It also states that it has no additives, so again - pretty safe. I would say find the ingredients list (find out what the 1% is) and if it's just paper then it will be fine to use. Note: Fresh News is a cat litter that is 100% paper - making it totally safe a well. I use it for my sneezy girl.

Scoopable (clumping) cat litter is fine for all cats. Clay cat litter (the little pebble like litter) DOES NOT ruin a cat's paws but that type of litter needs to be completely changed almost daily because those pebble-like clay litters do not absorb urine. Go with the Scoopable and put an old rug in front of the cat box - your kitty will do great. Tidy Cat is reasonably priced. Later, if you can get to Costco, they sell a 30lb container of fantastic scoopable litter in a big green and blue jug for around $7.00. The BEST price in town and it really works great.
