What a stylish dress! I think it's so cute, but you are right it is a little too short. But that is totally fixable. I think this dress would work really well as a tunic paired with some dark wash jeans or black leggings. If the belt comes with the dress then you should wear it, but if it does not then a nice thick woven belt would go well around the waist. For shoes I would pick a nice pair of wedges or, if you want to be a little more casual, maybe some gladiators or thong sandals. And for accessories keep it simple with a short silver or gold necklace, or maybe nice charm bracelet. Hope I helped :)

An outdoor dance party would be sweet at night. Paper light lanterns on a patio with speakers will make it a perfect night under the stars. Dress elegantly, and just have small snacks since it should be after dinner if it is dark... another idea if you have a barn is a barn party with the same elegant dress-code, dance idea. Finally, my recent 8th grade dance had what I am describing, but then had a path lit up so you could walk to another area for ping-pong, limbo, hula-hooping and jump houses.
